Article by: Gali N.

Experiencing anxiety is a normal part of life, however, people with Generalized anxiety disorder experience it to the extreme. Worry and fear is always on their mind.

Anxiety is a mental illness that causes people to have constant panic/fear, sleep problems, feeling nervous, restlessness, feeling tense, having an increased heart rate, feeling weak or tired, hyperventilation and way more.

Even though these symptoms are true, anxiety is treatable with the right help. People who have had the worst cases of generalized anxiety disorder have gotten treatment and lived happy and fulfilling lives.

There are a few ways this can be treated. One is psychotherapy, also known as “talk” therapy. This type of therapy (Cognitive behavioral therapy)is geared towards helping people with this condition and teaching them coping mechanisms so they can return to normal functioning with more ease. Medication is also a common form of treatment. The most common forms of medication prescribed to people with Generalized anxiety include antidepressants, anti-anxiety drugs, and in some cases sedatives.

The exact cause of this illness is not fully known but there are a number of factors that may contribute to the development such as genetics, brain chemistry, and stress.

There are ways for us, as a community can help people around us with Generalized Anxiety Disorder.the most important thing to do is listen to them and talk to them. Treating them like a person and the way you would want to be treated can really comfort them and make them feel better.
