2019 Impeachment?

Just yesterday, President Donald Trump unclassified the transcript of a phone conversation he had on July 25th with President Zelenskyy of Ukraine.

The President started off by congratulating Zelenskyy on his victory in the parliamentary election saying “We all watched from the United States and you did a terrific job. The way you came from behind, somebody who wasn’t given much of a chance, and you ended up winning easily. It’s a fantastic achievement. Congratulations.”

However, soon after the initial greeting, Trump switched gears, “I will say that we do a lot for Ukraine. We spend a lot of effort and a lot of time. Much more than the European countries are doing and they should be helping you more than they are.”, reminding Zelenskyy of how he had been helping him for a while before that.

Then, not threateningly, Trump brought up the how Ukraine hasn’t been reciprocating, indicating that he was going to ask for something in return for America’s help. Then he brought up Attorney General Barr, and how , “ [he] would like to have the Attorney General call you.. [Zelenskyy] ”. He also brought up Rudy Giuliani, saying that “I will ask him to call you along with the Attorney General. Rudy very much knows what’s happening and he is a very capable guy. If you could speak to him that would be great”, pushing Zelenskyy into working more closely with Trump’s close allies.

However, Trump revealed his true purpose for the call soon afterwards, suggesting to investigate Former Vice President Joe Biden. “The other thing, There’s a lot of talk about Biden’s son, that Biden stopped the prosecution and a lot of people want to find out about that so whatever you can do with the Attorney General would be great. Biden went around bragging that he stopped the prosecution so if you can look into it... It sounds horrible to me. ”

Which Zelenskyy responded by saying “I wanted to tell you about the prosecutor. First of all I understand and I’m knowledgeable about the situation. Since we have won the absolute majority in our Parliament, the next prosecutor general will be 100% my person, my candidate, who will be approved by the parliament and will start as a new prosecutor in September. He or she will look into the situation, specifically to the company that you mentioned in this issue”. Confirming that he would select an excellent prosecutor to look into Biden.

The Democrats reacted angrily to this, suggesting impeachment, which Trump responded by tweeting out ‘Such an important day at the United Nations, so much work and so much success, and the Democrats purposely had to ruin and demean it with more breaking news Witch Hunt garbage. So bad for our Country!” As for the future, we just have to wait for things to unfold.

Though impeachment has been put on the table, there is no guarantee he would be expelled from office. Impeachment is a complicated process involving many different steps. Even with the possibility of impeachment, we have to wonder.

Would Mike Pence be a better president?
